Aquino administration rushes auction of PPP projects

After the awarding of 10 projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) program, the Aquino administration is now rushing to auction off 40 more projects in its last year in office.

Currently, there are 12 PPP projects amounting to P347.28 billion that are under procurement. These include the P4-billion Integrated Transport System (ITS) South Terminal, the P122.8-billion Laguna Lakeshore Expressway Dike Project, P24.4-billion Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project, P18.72-billion New Centennial Water Source-Kaliwa Dam Project, P50.18-billion Regional Prison Facilities, P18.99-billion Davao Sasa Port Modernization Project, and the 10-year operation and maintenance of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 2.

Other projects that are being auctioned off are the operation, maintenance and development contracts for the New Bohol (Panglao) Airport worth P2.34 billion, Laguindingan Airport worth P14.62-billion, Davao Airport worth P40.57 billion, Bacolod Airport worth P20.26 billion, and Iloilo Airport worth P30.40 billion.

The said projects are in different stages of the bidding process, with four projects only awaiting bid submission.

Meanwhile, prequalification of bidders for the Davao-Sasa Port Modernization Project and Regional Airports has been postponed to July 29 and July 29, respectively.

As of last week, bidding of the P170.7-billion North-South Railway Project as well as the P298-million Road Transport Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Project is yet to start pending the issuance of invitation to prequalify and bid by the Department of Transportation and Communications.

Pending for approval by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) are the P50.2-billion Light Rail Transit Line 4 (LRT-4) (Ortigas-Taytay, Rizal) Project, P10.5-billion Batangas-Manila Natural Gas Pipeline, P6.3-billion C5 Modern Bus Transit System, and the P74.6-billion Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Development Project.


Just recently, PPP Center Executive Director Cosette V. Canilao confirmed that the Aquino administration was able to raise roughly P64 billion from the public biddings of its first 10 PPP projects.
