NEDA approves P63-billion infra and capacity-building projects

P63-billion worth of infrastructure and capacity-building projects got the green light to proceed from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board during its meeting yesterday.

The list of projects consisted of the:

·  P28.943-billion restructuring of the second phase of the National Road Improvement and Management Program that is funded by a $232-million (P10.452-billion) World Bank loan and P18.491 billion in local counterpart funding--the project itself involves improvement of 450 kilometers of national arterial roads and maintenance of 1,000 km of such main thoroughfares under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH);
·  P13.37-billion second phase of the Balog-Balog Multipurpose Project--under the National Irrigation Administratoin (NIA) and the Office of the Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization--that involves construction of a 105.5-meter-high dam with storage capacity of about 420 million cubic meters and aims to improve water supply and mitigate flooding in Tarlac province;
·  P10.118-billion Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT 2) West Extension Project under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) that involves design and construction of a 3.02-km extension of the existing LRT 2 line from Recto station in Manila City westward to the Pier 4 area, including three additional stations;
·  P6.935-billion change in scope, cost increase and 24-month loan extension of DPWH’s Road Improvement and Institutional Development Project to include reconstruction or replacement of storm-damaged Macasoy Bridge in Zamboanga del Norte--funding consists of foreign loans amounting to P2.666 billion from the Asian Development Bank and P1.29 billion from the OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) Fund for International Development as well as P2.979 billion in local counterpart funding;
·  NIA’s P2.63-billion Agno River Irrigation System Extension Project in Pangasinan that will increase the system’s 15,000-hectare (ha) service area by 12,894 ha;
·  P1.426-billion second phase of the Bureau of Fire Protection Capability Building Program that involves acquisition of 76 fire trucks to be deployed in “select priority cities nationwide,” personal protective equipment and training; and
·  Land Bank of the Philippines’ P231.1-million Local Government Units (LGUs) Investment Program Supplement III aimed at helping Mindanao LGUs finance key projects.
